Most importantly, insurance can save you from financial destruction in case of catastrophic illnesses that require several nights in the hospitals.  With the rising costs of hospital bills, one hospitalization can wipe out a lifetime of saving without insurance.  With insurance, you may still have to make some payments to the hospital. However your major assets will be covered.
